STAD: Student Teams Achievement Division

Grouping of Students:
•    4-5 team members of varying academic abilities, gender and race/ethnicity

Materials Needed:
•    Writing utensils
•    Paper (for notes)
•    Worksheets
•    Answer Sheets
•    Quizzes

Directions:

  • Teacher presents material (this strategy works best with topics that have well-defined objectives and single right answers).

  • Each student takes notes.

  • Teams study material together, using worksheets and answer sheets.

  • Team members take individual quizzes to demonstrate what they have learned.

  • Individual quiz scores are added together to form a team score (scores reflect the degree of improvement over past quiz scores).

  • Teams are rewarded for their performance.

  • Each team member receives one of three recognition awards:

o    Good Team: 15-19 improvement points
o    Great Team: 20-24 improvement points
o    Super Team: 25-30 improvement points
